One of two rookie clubs that bumped the statewide competition up from five to six teams following Burnie's demise, the Bombers have virtually had to build from scratch after not affiliating a NTFAW senior team last year.
But the group of aspirational teenagers have seamlessly moved North into third position almost overnight.
"We really just didn't know what a Kingborough or even a Lauderdale was going to be like," Smith said.
"We didn't have any expectations, but it's part of what I kind of discuss with the girls.
"I don't think there would be too many people who would have had us down at 4-3 so far in our first year.
"We have already done that - to get four wins, that is.
"As far as our development goes, I'm rapt where we're at if we can hold onto a finals spot in our first year."
The Bombers sit just 0.29 per cent ahead of Saturday's home game rivals Clarence.
"It locks us in and we can knuckle down on settling our side apart from a few injuries that we have had to play around with the side a bit up until this point," he said.
"Now we are starting to settle into our positions so we are ready come finals time."
Launceston faces Lauderdale in a top-versus-bottom clash in Hobart.
Blues coach Angela Dickson is trying to find ways to keep the unbeaten side motivated in what could be a lopsided scoreline on Sunday.
"The next couple of weeks will be more about trying players in different positions like we have started doing every other week," she said, "we're resting a few to give them time away from footy."
Lauderdale just last week conceded 181 points - the highest score in the TSLW's two-and-a-half year history.
But Dickson said there was no orders to break that mark.
"It's never about trying to hit a certain number on a scoreboard or anything like that," she said, "we're purely focused on our game plan and how we play our footy."
