Scott Glanville, 56, survived a crash in which he lost control of his Mitsubishi van about 7am Tuesday, but was tragically killed when a Mazda utility lost control and collided with the van a short time later.

Police believe both vehicles lost control on the same patch of black ice, while rounding a bend about 5km east of the Bakers Beach turn off.

Mr Glanville, from Legana, was an employee of Devonport business Shane Hill Electrical, and he was driving a work vehicle when he was killed.

Mr Hill paid tribute to his employee in a statement on Wednesday morning, and said he was known to 'light up' staff functions.

"[We] express our heartfelt condolences to Scott Glanville's wife Cindy, children Nic, Sam, Toni parents Rod and Jean," Mr Hill said.

"He was a valued jovial employee who lit up the staff's day. His contribution to our company and customers cannot be over stated.

"He loved arming the barbeque for social functions, was very family orientated and spoke of his love for his family often.

"He was a great mate and I will miss him."

Staff members said Mr Glanville was a legend and a great friend to all at the company.
