Its first-year women's team has scooped a different pool - the Tasmanian Netball League.
Northern Hawk Ashlea Mawer and Cavaliers Isabella Maskell, Jamie Easther, Deanna Wadley, Rachael Tempo Dana Lester and Blues co-coach Kate McLaughlin have all pulled on the boots in the club's maiden season, successfully mixing the rigours of State League netball with the ruggedness of regional footy.
Maskell said the group's venture into footy had come through natural links to the club.
"A few of us have partners that were playing in the OLs so we've come and supported the OLs for a few seasons now," the 21-year-old said.
"It was nice to have a bit of a change of scenery from netball I guess - a different training environment and playing group so I think that's what pulled a lot of us in.
"We're actually really good friends on and off court, both Hawks and Cavs have got strong relationships within the teams and playing footy has brought that friendship even closer.
"It's actually really nice - we can go away from the court and all hang out."
Those friendships could be tested later on in the year with Cavaliers and Hawks part of a three-horse race with Arrows for the TNL title.
Cross-code fixture clashes will be inevitable should OLs make July's NTFAW finals series, leaving the six to rely on favourable draws from the NTFA.
"We've been trying to do the right things by both teams, so making sure we can train hard and be at footy as much as possible without compromising netball," Maskell said.
While Cavaliers have been well-scouted, Mawer's Hawks remain a largely untapped source for footy talent.
The 23-year-old premiership goal shooter said she had a few ideas about who might be persuaded to join her on the footy field.
"Zoe Claridge played with Launceston a couple of years ago - and maybe the Coote sisters," she said.
