I walk to work into the CBD across the Charles Street bridge every morning and without fail, I would see on average three vehicles running the lights at every intersection. Not only cars but trucks.

Instead of slowing down approaching the amber lights they speed up and some are hitting the intersection when the light has already turned red.

Also, those cars that feel the need to enter into the intersection when the traffic is backed up only to be caught across it when the lights change blocking the intersection.

Come on people, someone will get killed again. Please get off your phones too.

WHY is the City of Launceston council so eager to spoil a perfect piece of national heritage by allowing another cable cart installed beside the existing one?

Doesn't this most beautiful Gorge belong to Australian/Tasmanian citizens?

Please don't go ahead with it.

THOSE denigrating Speaker Sue Hickey about her words and actions are well off course.

Being old enough to remember the true old Liberal Party, Ms Hickey is more representative of the real meaning of Liberal .

ON June 28 some will be celebrating 100 years since the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which officially brought to an end World War I.

Australia was a signatory to the Treaty, which saw Australia recognised internationally as a world force, power and nation.

In some ways, celebrations could be considered misguided, as the extremely severe reparations and terms inflicted on Germany was one of the main causes if not the main cause of World War II.

Only if the federal government were to reduce the number of working visas available.

I WOULD like to bring Dorset Council resident's attention to the increases to domestic waste kerbside collection.

For example, Gladstone has had an inexplicable waste service fee increase from $91.15 to $323.59.

Dorset Council did not consult with the Gladstone community upon the outset.

We understand from time to time council may deem it necessary to increase rates and or services but without community consultation and why the massive increase?

Gladstone community submitted a petition against, wrote, emailed, phoned, and attended a general meeting.

Mayor Greg Howard, Treasurer Peter Gutwein and the ombudsman were all contacted and had the same list of concerns and figures but each office replied and there was nothing they could do.

Are not state and local governments elected by the people to represent them at all levels? So basically when you look closely at this it's essentially a revenue raising exercise and nothing else.

The Gladstone community members reuse, reduce and recycle their waste at the Gladstone Waste Transfer Station without the use of wheelie bins.

What else are we not going to be consulted on and forced to comply?

Government - local, state and federal must consider their constituents.

HAVING lived almost all of my life in the northern suburbs of Launceston, (childhood in Invermay and adult life in Newnham), I am most offended and annoyed at the constant characterisation of this part of the city as crime-ridden and anti-social.

This is the representation offered time and again in the media and by officialdom generally.

It is crass profiling at its worst and clearly prejudicial to those living in these areas.

The lockdowns and police operations in Ravenswood and Mayfield were obviously conducted at great expense in time, money and resources.

The returns? Dubious at best.

Two individuals out of 600 found to be positive in drug tests conducted.

A strike rate of 0.003 per cent. Really?

Recent examples of violent crimes, including murder, home invasions and assaults involved individuals from Kings Meadows, West and South Launceston.

When are the helicopters, road spikes, sirens and police resources going to be deployed south of the Tamar and Charles Street bridges? Now, there's a thought.
