MAST chief executive Lia Morris said this was the first significant safety survey the organisation has run for about a decade.
The survey will look to get a better idea of Tasmanians' boating habits - where they go, why they go boating, what sort of boats they are using and when they last had their inflatable life jackets serviced.
"We are aiming to make boating better and safer in Tasmania through the survey results, which will be analysed by Tasmanian research firm EMRS," Ms Morris said.
"We know that 94 per cent of Tasmanians who go boating wear their life jackets. But the numbers of people who are having their inflatable life jackets properly serviced as per the manufacturer's instructions is alarming.
One survey respondent will win entry tickets for two to the Sydney International Boat Show in August and a $500 travel voucher.
