The change comes as part of the council's broader waste strategy and is expected to provide a more cost-effective solution while increasing local employment and reducing the money paid to outside contractors.
The change will see the creation of alternating bin days for different townships, along with the splitting of general waste and recycling bin collection weeks.
Some changes to the mandatory waste collection zone have also been made. Properties falling outside the areas are able to opt-in to the service if a route passes their street frontage or engage a local private contractor.
Residents who have not received a council-stamped bin and information pack by Friday should contact the Dorset customer service team.
