A $20 million project for the Cataract Gorge has been announced by the owners of the chairlift, including gondolas with seating space for eight people on a triangular-shaped return route.

The Launceston Skyway will construct an almost 1500-metre gondola route with a 585-metre trip beyond the current chairlift, a 418-metre trip to the peak alongside the Alexandra Suspension Bridge, and then 480-metre route to the starting point.
More than 20 gondolas will operate.
They will be wheelchair accessible, and also have room for eight people. It will be the third of its type in the world once complete.
The developers, the Larter family, say it's a long way off construction with conversations starting with the City of Launceston council. The project will be 100 per cent privately funded.
Developers said it was important for the offering to be all access and all weather.
The trip is expected to take about 25 minutes.
The development has been in the works for about three years.
Adult tickets would cost about $26. TNT's Chris Griffin said it will attract more people to the Gorge.
