Northern Tasmanian businesses are being urged to be vigilant of a man who has scammed money from businesses after convincing them he requires cash for a locksmith.
Tasmania Police released a warning on Wednesday alerting businesses of the scam that has been carried out in the state's south and west.
Acting Detective Inspector John Parker said the scam follows a similar course each time.

"This man tells staff members that he has locked his belongings in his vehicle and then proceeds to ask the business for cash to pay the locksmith to unlock his vehicle on the promise of returning the money," he said.
"The man provides false personal details to the businesses and has even encouraged some businesses to take a photograph of him as surety.
"The man is provided the cash and never returns."
