Launceston is one of seven regional cities shortlisted for the second site.
The other cities are Alice Springs, Bendigo, Busselton, Dubbo, Mackay and Wagga Wagga, with all "still under consideration", Qantas Group chief executive Alan Joyce said.
"We're conscious there are several regional cities still waiting to hear whether they have been successful as the home of our second academy and we really appreciate their patience, as we focus on getting the first site to this stage," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A Qantas spokesman said the group was concentrating on the first academy at Toowoomba, which had "taken a little longer than we expected".
"We're pretty focused on getting Toowoomba established and once that's underway we'll turn our attention to the second location," the spokesman said.
Applications have opened for aspiring pilots looking to study at the Toowoomba academy, which start the first intake in September.
"More than 22,000 people have so far registered their interest in the academy so we expect there to be some exceptional talent amongst them putting their hand up to commence their pilot training," Mr Joyce said.
