Receiving a Rising Star nomination for his performance in North Melbourne's round 12 win over Gold Coast, 2018's eighth draft pick has now been compared to some of the league's best.
On Channel Nine's Footy Classified, respected football journalist and broadcaster Craig Hutchison revealed his thoughts on Thomas' start to 2019, comparing him to 2015 Brownlow Medalist and arguably the league's best player, Fremantle's Nat Fyfe.
"I'm just wondering whether we are not seeing something really special here in Tarryn Thomas," Hutchison said to his panel of Chris Judd and Damian Barrett.
"He looks like he could be [Marcus] Bontempelli or [Nat] Fyfe 2.0 again. I know it's a couple of years away but I just get the feeling he is going to be one of the most dominant players in the competition.
"As a first year 18-year-old, he's got an enormous trick-bag. I'm so impressed with him, it'll be fascinating to see how it ends up."
Following former coach, Brad Scott's departure, Thomas has flourished under interim boss Rhyce Shaw.
