The criteria for inclusion was painted submissions, and the collection features everything from abstract canvases to acrylic-on-perspex to landscapes.
Poimena Gallery adjoins the Launceston Church Grammar art class rooms, and curator/teacher Paul Snell said the exhibitions had a powerful effect-by-osmosis on the students.
"It's massive, having this space and having children interact with art on a very informal level," he said.
"When I think about when I was in school - I think I went to the museum in Hobart, you know, once.
"I had no idea about art, no idea about contemporary art especially, and these guys are surrounded by it all the time."
The purpose of the exhibition is to expose the public to the "cacophony" of possibilities in the medium, Mr Snell said.
His aim was to curate a variety of works that explore the limitless possibilities of what one can do with a brush and a few pots of paint, from "Mairi Ward's really detailed, almost cathartic constructions, through to Todd Jenkins' very layered [works]."
Paint_19 includes works from Patrick Grieve, Mairi Ward, Carolyn Wigston, Michael Muruste, Angus Douglas, Carmel Dilger, Holly Zeinert, Todd Jenkins and Penny Mason, and is on at Poimena Gallery until June 27.
