TV legends take to the stage

Kerry O'Brien's is a familiar face to anyone who has taken a passing interest in news and current affairs over the past 50 years, while Tom Baker has stolen many a heart as one of fans' favourite Dr Whos (he was the one with the scarf). O'Brien will star in person in a production of classic text 1984, as the Narrator. Unfortunately Tom Baker wasn't able to jump in the TARDIS and travel to Tasmania, but he has supplied his vocal chords as the voice of Big Brother. They will support the talented Tasmanian actors of Stephen Beckett Productions in this one-night-only play. See it Saturday night at 8pm at the Princess Theatre; tickets $65 or $60 concession.

Tassie's rising comedy stars try out their best new bits

Nine upcoming comedians will hop behind the mic for the June edition of Homebrew Comedy, which promises "all new material alongside the finest craft beers that have ever filled a glass". Get your funny bone tickled on Wednesday from 7.30pm at Saint John Craft Beer, $5 on the door.

Country Music Variety Show

Country, comedy, yodelling, and rock n roll from duo

Entertainment professionals Wayne Horsburgh and Rodney Vincent will be getting boots tapping on Friday with the Country Music Variety Show. The country crooners will each do their own show, as well as presenting several songs together, including a tribute segments to the Everly Brothers, Gene Pitney (with whom Rodney toured with and wrote and recorded two songs), and our own king of rock and roll, Johnny O'Keefe. See it at the Italian Club at 7.30pm, tickets $15 on the door.

Tracey Muir's children's book Heads or Tails is a picture book that introduces young children to mathematical concepts such as chance and prediction: When Maggie can't decide what to do, she flips a coin - but not all results come out in Maggie's favour. Muir will be at Petrarch's Bookshop from 10.30am to 11.30am on Saturday.

World Music Meets Club Beats

The Gold Coast-based band will be in Launceston on Saturday night, touring with vinyl release Bhairavis Garden. Expect "shredding Flamenco guitar, pulsating electronic beats mixed with Middle Eastern Percussion and soaring trumpet riffs" meets Blur.
