In a city known to love coffee, Tisane Tea Room provides a quiet space for those who prefer leaves to beans.
Established in Duncan House on Brisbane Street as a sister business to Sanctum salon, Tisane has been a long-time goal for owner Annie Burns.
"I always loved the idea of having a spa salon with a little cafe," Ms Burns said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Tisane opened at the end of May after about nine months of planning and refitting.
"It's a slower start, which is a little bit on purpose. It was to give ourselves time to find our feet and fine tune," Ms Burns said.
"We found this space quite early on and fell in love with the building and this beautiful window," she said.
The focus on tea and relaxation works like an extension to the salon, but also puts tea in the spotlight.
"Nobody is really giving tea a starring role in Launceston. There's always tea, but it's almost an afterthought," Ms Burns said.
Tisane has a menu of 30 teas from the classics, like English breakfast, earl grey and green tea, to fruit, spice and new flavours.
Teas include the Tasmanian Art of Tea, but also boutique brands such as Zee Tea and XO Tea, with more to come like Launceston newcomer The Tea Equation.
However, if you prefer something other than tea, there is also coffee, house-made hot chocolate and spiced latte.
Cakes and slices come from VegOut, Brownie Point, Drop Dead Bread and Byron Bay Cookie Company.
Ms Burns and her team work to create a tranquil space where people can take time out, relax and connect with others at Tisane.
"We want to slow people down, just for a little bit, and then send them on their way," she said.
"I saw a quote from a coffee company and they called themselves 'enablers of connection'. That resonated because I thought we could get people talking over a pot of tea and a cookie."
Tisane Tea Room is 45 Brisbane Street, Launceston and opens Wednesday to Friday between 10am and 4pm and Saturday 9am until 2pm.
