A 14-year-old boy remains in a critical condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital after his trail bike crashed into a barbed-wire cattle fence.

The teenager and his friend were riding dirt bikes at North Scottsdale about 11.30am on Sunday when the incident occurred.
Emergency services were called to Old Waterhouse Road as a result of the crash, with the boy airlifted by the police rescue helicopter to the Hobart hospital.

The teenager sustained face and wrist fractures, a head injury and was put on a ventilator.
The boy remained in a critical condition on Monday.
Police do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash, but investigations into the incident were ongoing.
