Winning 5.6 (36) to 4.2 (26), Ford kicked the sealing goal and Crawford was named best-on-ground in the see-sawing encounter.
South hit the front early with goals to Ford and Georgie Bailey to lead at quarter-time in front of a diminished but vocal crowd.
Scottsdale's Jess Casey then repaid coach Cabel Hall's faith with the first two Northern scores to trail by three points at half time.
Momentum swayed back and forth until Paige Crooks set up Casey's third and put the North momentarily in the lead until Bailey gave the SFL the edge.
Superstar Casey then kicked her fourth to give the North a two-point lead at three-quarter time and set things up for a thriller of a last quarter.
The split crowd rode every bump in the final quarter, with the Southerners holding the ball inside their forward 50 but struggling to score until captain Crawford led from the front to break the deadlock.
Ford then made up for an earlier missed opportunity earlier in the quarter with a sealing goal on the run with less than two minutes to go, which put the icing on the cake for the travelling side.
Scottsdale's Raigan Kettle was named best Northern player in a magnificent midfield performance with Carey's four goals showing her form after seven last week.
