Regardless of the name, the issue is one of contention at a global, national and local level.
Councils are starting to make plans to prepare for the change, the tourism sector focused on the issue at a conference, farmers (including those in Tasmania) are feeling the impact and whole generations are campaigning around the world for action.
David Attenborough says climate change is occurring.
"There is no question that climate change is happening; the only arguable point is what part humans are playing in it," he said.
Bill Gates says by the time climate change is really "your ability to fix it is extremely limited".
The Examiner's new series Gauge on Climate is not about determining who caused change. It's not an argument as to whether the situation is a natural timeline or if humans have helped to escalate the problem.
Our series is about getting to the basics. What do all the terms mean? Who is affected?
What position is Tasmania in and what more needs to be done?
How can we, as households and a community, improve our actions to be more environmentally friendly? Which cafes give discounts for bringing your own coffee cup and what happens at the recycling centre?
Importantly, we want to know your questions. Since the series launched on Tuesday we have received numerous emails from people wanting us to explore aspects of climate change - both positive and negative.
What do you think? You can have your say in the letters to the editor.
Or if you would like our journalists to follow up your ideas/questions please email senior journalist Caitlin Jarvis at caitlin.jarvis@fairfaxmedia.com.au. Caitlin is leading the series for the newsroom.
While I have you, we are experimenting with our newsletters at the moment based on feedback from you, our subscribers. This week you would have seen an email from our health reporter Jessica Willard giving a snapshot of the health round the past fortnight. What other newsletters would you like to see? Have your say here.
Until next week,
