With junior players from all over the state set to represent their regions in under-13s, 15s and 18s competition, the June long weekend tournament has become a staple of Hockey Tasmania's calendar and is something for the developing players to aspire for, no matter how strong they get.
Last year's tournament was lean pickings for the North of the state, with no Northern sides picking any age groups and the North-West taking out both the boys and girls under-18 events.
With the South of the state often providing two teams per age group and event, they sit as the front runners for many of the disciplines once again but the North aim to provide stiff competition for their Southern rivals.
Northern pair Josh Commins and Josh Demarco have been in ripping form for their respective clubs, with Commins making the move to Southern competition by representing the sixth-placed DiamondBacks, for which he has scored two goals and Demarco leading the way for Launceston City as they aim to maintain their top four position in GNL.
In addition to the in-form Josh pairing, Kaleb Nielsen and Sam Elliston-Buckley showed their potential and class earlier this year by representing the state in under-18s nationals held in Hobart.
With next year's under-18s nationals to be held in Launceston, there's a fair chance some of the players running around in Hobart over the long weekend will be a part of those sides, making the weekend even more important for some of those involved.
The Northern under-18 girls also have plenty to prove after last year's performance, where they failed to pick up a victory.
With state under-18 representative and recent four-goal GNLW scorer Lucy Cooper leading the charge for the Northern girls, she'll be joined by under-16 state pair Isabella McRobbie and Amelia Duffy.
The Queechy trio have been at the top of their game recently as the Penguins sit at the top of the GNLW ladder, having only lost the one game.
Goalkeeper Duffy has been especially impressive in front of the net, with her side only conceding six goals so far this season and her skill on full display last weekend with an effective stroke save expelling South Launceston's dangerous attack.
In-form Penguins star Sarah McRobbie will take a step off the field and coach the girls side, with Steve Commins to oversee the boys operation.
