The government is unaware as to when Copper Mines Tasmania's Queenstown mine will reopen.
The mine has been in care and maintenance since it closed in 2013 following three deaths at the mine.
Resources Minister Sarah Courtney told a budget estimates committee on Wednesday she had met with management in the past weeks.
She said the government had provided financial support for the mine in the past to undertake works and further support would be made available in the event of its reopening.
"We're engaging regularly with management locally and internationally to be able to provide the certainty that we need for the community and reiterate the support from the government for this project," Ms Courtney said.
She said the government also had provisions within the upcoming budget to assist with the reopening of the Zeehan's Avebury nickel mine, owned by Dundas Mining.
The company bought the mine in 2017 after it was shut down following a fall in nickel prices.
