The Bulldogs' committee met with the Cricket North board on Tuesday night to discuss the move, which would likely see second and third grade sides entered for the 2019-20 season and a first grade side two years down the track.
Cricket North administrator David Fry said the discussions had been positive and would continue over the coming weeks.

"Things are still on track and moving slowly towards them joining our competition," Fry said.
"Basically we've sent the club back to provide us with some more information.
"Their intention at this point is to put in a couple of grades with a view to moving towards putting in a first grade team in around about two seasons' time.
"[They] need to negotiate some funding from government and other sources, sport and rec etc., to get a turf wicket into their ground around about that time, but there's still a few things to happen."
The North's only turf competition boasts five first grade clubs - Launceston, South Launceston, Westbury, Riverside and Mowbray - while George Town competes in second grade.
Fry said Cricket North had long been looking to add a sixth club to its first grade ranks, but would take care to do so with the blessing of those already in the competition.
"We need to consult with our existing clubs - obviously we want their support if we're going to move ahead with this so we're taking things a step at a time," he said.
"Obviously we still won't have a first-grade side in for a year or two, but the possibility of having a six-team first grade competition is obviously something we want to pursue."
