After winning the Australian Window Association and Australian Glass and Glazing Association's 2019 Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year title, Mr Johnson, 19, will compete against other state and territory winners for the national award, which is presented in Sydney in August.
The Exeter man has been working for Invermay business Glass Supplies for three-and-a-half years, performing so well he finished his apprenticeship in just three years.
"I was signed off at the start of this year, so I'm a tradesman now," Mr Johnson said.

Two things attracted Mr Johnson to the job: the ability to work outside and around the state's North and North-West.
"I like hands-on work and being outdoors," Mr Johnson said.
"I liked working on the Silos and C. H. Smith, and we worked on a pretty speccy house at Port Sorell."
As part of his apprenticeship, Mr Johnson attended TAFE in two two-week blocks each year, giving him time to focus on honing his skills at Glass Supplies.
The business has about 100 employees between the service centres at Invermay and Hobart, and factory at Rocherlea.
"That was one of the reasons I wanted to work there - I knew it was secure and there would always be work," Mr Johnson said.
