Double J radio's Zan Rowe has been a long time observer at Mona's Dark Mofo, but for the first time will actually become a participant.
Rowe will take her Take 5 series on the road for just the second time ever in its 13-year history as she interviews Dirty Three's Warren Ellis at Hobart Town Hall.
The first ever live Take 5 was held this time last year at Sydney's Vivid Festival with rapper Ice Cube at the Opera House.
"I didn't know how it would go because it's a segment that is all about the intimacy of story and two people chatting and people kind of eavesdropping on a conversation, but it went really well," Rowe said.
"So we wanted to do it again, but we were looking for the right opportunity and when we saw that Dirty Three were playing Dark Mofo that we were able to do it."
She said an environment like Dark Mofo, and being in a different part of Australia, would give the event an iconic feeling.
Ellis is an incredible musician and a great character, which will make for a great live Take 5, Rowe said.
"Music has this way of acting as this really sensory memory. It's a real gateway, and when people talk about the music, and the songs that really affected them, changed their lives and made them who they are you, often get a vulnerability that you don't get in other interviews," she said.
"I think that his choices might surprise people ... his musical talent is really broad."
Rowe has been an avid punter of Dark Mofo for a number of years, but this will be the first time she will actually take part in an event.
"Obviously with Dark Mofo there is a lot of play to be had as well, so we're going to get into town a few days before hand and really soak up as much as we can," she said.
The serpentwithfeet and Kelsey Lu show is also high on the list, along with the Nicolas Jaar event.
"I want to also head to Night Mass because I find those big late night parties are always a great point of discovery. It's nice to just trust a curator and wander into an event and not know who is going to play but be surprised," she said.
"That's one of the great thing about Dark Mofo - you can just go in and find a new favourite act or band or see something that blows your mind and have no idea that you were going to see that at the start of the night."
Warren Ellis in conversation with Zan Rowe will be held on Saturday June 15 at the Hobart Town Hall.
The event will start at 4pm and finish at 5pm. For more information, visit darkmofo.net.au.
Double J will be broadcasting the Warren Ellis Take 5 on Friday, June 21 at 10am.
