It's lovely to get a little bit rugged up with a beanie and a scarf and to go for a walk along a beach that's completely deserted apart from you - that's a really special feeling.

Despite it being thought of as a summertime destination, East Coast Tourism chief executive Ruth Dowty said the cooler months were her favourite time of the year.
"It is an amazing time to be on the coast," she said.
"Usually in winter I must say, it's my favourite time.
"The weather is usually much more settled, so you don't get much wind and you get beautiful crisp clear days. The light is also really special.
"It's lovely to get a little bit rugged up with a beanie and a scarf and to go for a walk along a beach that's completely deserted apart from you - that's a really special feeling."
She said some upcoming event highlights included the Bay of Fires Winter Arts Festival and Festival of Voices Coastal.
"The events are a whole different thing but they're wonderful," she said.
"They're just fantastic events. They're always a whole lot of fun."
Ms Dowty said she fondly remembered sitting last year at Devil's Corner watching bands with the sun shining.
"Everybody was happy, it was just wonderful."
Ms Dowty said tourism did quieten down on the coast during the cooler months compared to summer.
"But there are still visitors," she said.
"It's just a great time to get your friends and your family to the coast to see what it has to offer."
"In winter it's different, and it's special, and it's calm. It's just lovely."
Upcoming events
Van Diemen's Band Coast to Coast
Baroque group the Van Diemen's Band will perform on the East Coast next week.
The Van Diemen's Band will visit St Helens while on a five-day road trip to towns outside the state's main cities.
Founder and artistic director Julia Fredersdorff said baroque meant music by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi.
"It also means Rembrandt's The Night Watch in painting and the square of Saint Peter's, Rome in architecture - but it's difficult to get them into a ute," she said.
"Music just needs the instruments and the written notes; then it can live for audiences around the state exactly as it did in Bach's day."
The band will be joined by one of Australia's international rising stars, the singer Lotte Betts-Dean.
The tour will also go to Franklin, Scottsdale, Latrobe, and Stanley.
