Tasmanian budget
I have been listening to comments on local radio about this year's budget. All the comments were much the same. "We want" was the catch cry.
Yes, it would be good for all these groups to get what they want, but at the end of the day, someone has to pay for all this.
Health, homeless accommodation, police and organisations like those should get preference.
My idea to fix the health problems is to stop all new road works for the next two years and put that money into health.
Probably a new minister might help as well. The Labor party reply is not needed as we all know that they will be against everything in it.
It would be nice for a change if they had some positive things to say instead of being so negative all the time.

Climate Change
I wonder why Dr Goldsteen (The Examiner, May 12) is cheering for the fossil fuel economy.
Most people accept that its days are numbered. What we need is a way to wean ourselves off coal and petroleum very quickly. The transition won't be easy and there will be some pain but we owe it to future generations.

Sponsor dollars misguided
The most valuable player award for the AFL match televised each Saturday night receives from a prominent retail store a TV set valued at around $8000.
Now surely, as if the players need it with the wages they are on. I'm sure a donation to the charity of the MVP's choice (of those eight big ones) would be far more rewarding, and meaningful in today's climate.
