Four University of Tasmania engineering students have been named the recipients of Engineers Australia's 2019 Diversity Scholarships.

Sponsored by Bell Bay Aluminium, Caterpillar and Hydro Tasmania, the Diversity Scholarships of $5000 each were awarded to young women entering their first year of an engineering qualification.
Engineering Australia general manager Dr David Pointing said international research shows that the more diversity in the workplace, the better the outcomes.
"Engineers Australia is focused on providing opportunities for young women to enter the profession," Dr Pointing said.
Bell Bay Aluminium asset and project manager Trent Burke said females make up 15 per cent of the company's workforce.
"We are working to increase that percentage year on year," Mr Burke said.
"We recognise the significant benefit to be gained by increasing the gender diversity of our workforce and attracting high-quality female employees across a range of roles including engineering."
Hydro Tasmania chief executive Steve Davy said the scholarships were one way support could be shown to young women choosing engineering as their career.
The four winners were Stella Brown of St Michael's Collegiate, Meg Phillips of Guilford Young College, Emma Calvert of St Michael's Collegiate, and Hannah Price of Elizabeth College.
