Launceston Church Grammar School student Oliver Carswell is quickly realising his tennis dream as he is set to represent Tasmania at the Australian under-11 teams championship to be held on the Gold Coast in June and July.
Set to compete in the teams championship alongside Joseph Dick, Lucas Akl, Olivia Wilkinson, Zola Case-Boag and Sofia Elliott, Carswell is the only Northern representative in both his side and the under-13 side who will travelling in conjunction with their younger counterparts.
Coached by father Mathew and grandfather David, Oliver continues the strong Carswell tennis legacy that has been in effect since great-grandmother Joan took up the sport in the early 20th century.
Oliver has started his 2019 year off with a bang, having trained and played in high temperatures in Melbourne which will prepare him for the next step in his tennis journey.
When speaking to The Examiner in March this year, Oliver described making the under-11 state side as his ultimate tennis goal for 2019, having thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing on the mainland.
An opportunity to meet up with friends made from the previous Melbourne tournament where Carswell met his tennis idol Rafael Nadal, the under-11 teams championship will be played on hard courts, a surface familiar to Oliver following his successes in the Northern junior development series.
Across the two tournaments run so far at the Launceston Regional Tennis Centre, Carswell has dropped one singles match, a 6-4 loss to Ethan Clemons at the most recent tournament his only blemish.
Oliver's form seems to have spread to younger brother William, with the eight-year-old currently undefeated across both junior development series tournaments with a third in Burnie looming for the two Carswell brothers this weekend.
