After leading the ladder into the final round, Riverside were pipped at the post by Mowbray who won their only match of the season, also 4 games to 3.
This enabled Prospect Vale to leapfrog Riverside and win the pennant flag by a narrow margin.
Launceston won division two and three and will represent the North in state finals after winning their area final comprehensively over East coast winner, St Helens.
These three state flags will be decided at Riverside Golf Club on June 1-2.
Handicap semi-finals were also decided with Tam O Shanter big winners over Launceston division four and Launceston division six narrow winners over a gallant Scottsdale.
The handicap final between Tam O Shanter and Launceston will be played at Riverside on Sunday. Riverside golf course is in immaculate order leading into the state finals and Northern Golf appreciates the club's co-operation in staging the lead up events.
In women's pennant, Prospect Vale have gone back to back in divisions one and two and Launceston have been victorious in division three.
Division two winners on the East Coast were Scamander River and they will play Prospect Vale division two at Bicheno on May 23 to decide the Northern representative team in the annual North versus North-West Shields and State pennant finals.
The shields are the Elphinstone, Watterson and Conroy, named after notable past players. Mowbray Golf Club will host these events on Sunday, May 26, and the club has also been generous with course availability.
The state women's flags will be decided at Claremont Golf Club on June 2 and 3.
Duncan Grant
The golfing world was saddened to hear of the passing of Duncan Grant.
Duncan had an imposing golfing record and was a member of Tasmania's inaugural success at the Australian Interstate series in 1968.
As well as being undefeated in his four matches, he was the medallist as leading qualifier in the Australian Amateur that year.
Duncan was also player/manager in 1974 when Tasmania were undefeated at Royal Hobart and again won the interstate series.
Playing the majority of his golf at Riverside, Duncan was club champion seven times from 1966 to 1984, won 18 veteran A grade championships and was the Australian Veteran Golfers Union overall winner in 1995, 1996 and in Launceston in 2003.
He was a gentleman and great friend and role model to his many veteran golfing companions.
Interstate series
The Australian Interstate series in Tasmania saw Victoria win their third successive men's title.
Tasmania received plenty of accolades for their fighting fourth. Wynyard's Craig Hancock exemplified this spirit and was one of only three players to go through the week unbeaten.
