Jesse Ansell, 12, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of four. The disorder causes progressive muscle degeneration leaving him wheelchair-bound.
On Monday afternoon, Jesse was reduced to tears of happiness as he received a package detailing the trip he'd be taking for his wish.
Jesse's wish was to explore Australia Zoo because he loved animals, and was very excited to see the crocodiles. His family would accompany him on the journey, which would also see them spend the week at Noosa.
Jesse's dad, Simon Ansell, said Jesse's disease was terminal and he was here "for a good time, not a long time".
IN OTHER NEWS:
"You can imagine as you get older and you start to understand what's going on that things can look pretty bleak at times for everyone," he said.
Mr Ansell said he didn't need to explain how big an impact the fulfilled wish had made.
"It's just one of those things that means that he gets out of bed in the mornings more often than not, and all you've got to do it look at him and say, 'Noosa'," he said.
Prior to jetting off on his Queensland adventure, Jesse and his family will be attending this year's Make-A-Wish Winter Ball.
The ball is the Launceston branch's annual fundraiser, with this year's theme being Fairytales, Fashion, and Fundraising.
The event will feature entertainment from band Candyfeet, and an auction on the night will include a piece by artist Graham Reed and fast laps during the Australian Rally Championships.
Mr Ansell urged the community to attend the ball to ensure the wishes of other children could also be fulfilled, just like Jesse's.
"We know what a difference this can make," Mr Ansell said.
