In April 2018, 123,002 people landed in Launceston compared to 129,006 arriving in April this year.
Launceston Airport general manager Paul Hodgen said the figures were stunning.
"Part of it is the events strategy that is being pushed, we had departing passengers that had participated in the Enduro mountain biking at the start of the month, then we had the V8s, Targa Tasmania, we had a Hawks AFL game, so all of that has come together and produced some really good results," he said.
"Then with the year to date, we're sitting at 2 per cent up on the previous year. That doesn't sound like a lot but when you see what other airports around the country are posting then I'm pretty happy."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Seven months of the 2018/19 financial year so far have recorded positive growth on the previous year at the same time. All carriers out of the airport put on some sort of additional capacity during April.
"We're tipping into May now and we've got BOFA festival, we've had Agfest and we have another Hawks [football] game coming up, which hopefully helps bolster the May performance," Mr Hodgen said.
Virgin Australia added capacity throughout the year, and Jetstar's load factors have been strong throughout the year on all routes, Mr Hodgen said.
"We have the biggest Airbus A321 flying at the moment on our morning Melbourne trip," he said.
"There are about 220 [seats] as opposed to 180 on the normal A320, so you've got 40 extra seats either way."
