This year artists had to address the theme Tasmania.
Exhibition curator Ashley Bird said he loved that the prize provided a playing field for all artists.
"The real value of the Bay of Fires Art prize is that it brings together more than just one medium," he said. "It allows all Tasmanian artists a way of making and saying something about being Tasmanian and what it is like to be a part of this unique environment."
The judges for this year's event are QVMAG visual art and design curator Ashleigh Whatling, Contemporary Art Tasmania's Sean Kelly, and UTAS emeritus professor and honorary fellow Jonathan Holmes.
It was Whatling's first year judging the prize, and she said she had enjoyed being involved.
"The quality of entries was very high this year but what I found most interesting was the range of abilities; we had submissions from established artists all the way through to the self-taught," she said.
"This is something I really love about being involved with an art prize as you get the opportunity to see artwork from a range of backgrounds that you wouldn't normally get to see."
The gala prize presentation will take place on June 7 at the Tidal Waters Resort, St Helens.
The Bay of Fires Winter Arts Festival will take place from June 8 to July 10 across the East Coast.
