Clark Independent MHR Andrew Wilkie gained over 50 per cent of the primary vote as of Saturday evening, a swing towards Mr Wilkie of over 6 per cent.

Mr Wilkie was followed by Labor candidate Ben McGregor with 20.5 per cent.

Liberal candidate Amanda Sue Markham polled third best from the primary vote, pulling almost 17 per cent.

The Australian Electoral Commission projected in a two party preferred vote Mr Wilkie will hold over 70 per cent of the vote.

United Australia Party candidate Jim Starkey polled poorly, attracting only 2.7 per cent of the primary vote.

As expected, Franklin Labor MHR Julie Collins also held her seat by a strong margin, gaining almost 45 per cent of the primary vote.

Liberal candidate Dean Young trailed with almost 31 per cent of the primary vote.

Greens candidate Kit Darko polled strongly with 16 per cent of the primary vote, a positive swing of 2.8 per cent.

Fraser Anning Conservative National Party candidate Darren Hawes attracted less than 2 per cent of the primary vote.

Polling percentages will not be finalised until pre-poll and postal votes are counted.
