It's an initiative of Working it Out, who hold events for LGBTI people in Launceston, as well as Diversity Launceston and Gender Help for Parents.
"It's the international day for ... not demonising queer people," said co-organiser Viktoria Szemes.
"It's the international day against not liking people."
The way co-organiser Dianne Anderson put it, is that "it's about feeling safe to be yourself".
"Not all queer people feel that way in Launceston, and not all of the time."
The barbecue will be a casual get-together of the LGBTI community and their family and friends, with all welcome at attend.
