Both major parties have announced they would fund upgrades to Launceston's iconic hall if they were elected, promising $10 million each.

Upgrades to the kitchen and commercial facilities are at the top of the list.

More flexible and configurable seating in the main auditorium would also be installed.

A temporary division of the main auditorium to accommodate events of different sizes and needs is also proposed.

Sound, lighting and the audio-visual system is also expected to receive an upgrade.

Funding to further develop a business case to investigate increasing the capacity of the venue to accommodate additional conferencing and events spaces would also be considered, mayor Albert van Zetten said.

"As we finalise the details of the proposed upgrades, we will be consulting with the Albert Hall's user groups to take on board feedback they may have," Cr van Zetten said.

"The Albert Hall is one of Launceston's most iconic buildings, and this funding will allow us to maintain it as an attractive option for event coordinators into the future."

The council is still in the process of undertaking a $60,000 feasibility study to identify maintenance for the ageing hall.
