Fresh from winning two state BMX titles in March, the St Patrick's College student will travel to Shepparton next week to compete in the national championships in cruiser and 20-inch categories.
Returning on May 26, the 2018 under-12 state hockey representative will then travel to Hobart the next day to trial for the under-13 state team.
"What I enjoy about hockey is while I really like to play, I really enjoy watching other people play and I love how everyone there is really nice and they help you and help you become a better player," Steward said.
"And BMX is practically the same - everyone there is really nice and supportive and it makes me want to keep doing it because I've got people there that really like to do it."
Steward has already travelled to Victoria once this year, competing in the Track Attack event which sees riders complete a tour of six different courses south of Melbourne.
Dad David said the 10-day event had been a great experience for his daughter, and paid credit to the guidance and assistance she had received from her coaches at Launceston BMX Club.
"You're racing basically every second day, so that was really good for Shelby to be racing on new tracks and the repetition of being on the bike all the time," he said.
"She's had some great coaching support from some of the club coaches.
"Mark Bracken and Tim West have been really good for Shelby, and the Ellises from Wynyard have been really good as well."
