Tarkine Campaigner Scott Jordan said the men ransacked tents, urinated on property and left after stealing electronic equipment.

"This group of alcohol-fuelled men, one stating he was a logger who logged rainforests elsewhere in the Tarkine last January, threatened our volunteer with assault and verbally abused the man for over half an hour," Mr Jordan said.

"Last night's attack is equivalent to a home invasion."

Mr Jordan said a report was made to Tasmania Police and on Wednesday morning they were waiting for officers to attend the camp to take statements from those who witnessed the attack.

Protesters initially said the men had stolen a jar of donation cash containing about $50 to $100, however, on Wednesday afternoon while cleaning up the camp Mr Jordan reported the jar had been found.

Mr Jordan said the men took three fauna cameras which are used to monitor wildlife.

The blockade, protesting the logging of the Tarkine's Sumac rainforest, has been in place since September 2018 and has been occupied by hundreds of volunteers and Bob Brown Foundation campaign staff over the past eight months.

Bob Brown Foundation campaign manager Jenny Weber said the foundation called on politicians, the Tasmanian government and the Tasmanian logging industry to condemn the attack.

"We conduct ourselves peacefully all the time and consistently bear the brunt of alcohol-fuelled, politically motivated violence by anti-conservationists," Ms Weber said.

"Protection of carbon-retaining native forests in Tasmania, in this age of mass extinctions and economically-ruinous global warming, is a social responsibility."

A government spokesman said, as the matter is with the police, it was not appropriate for them to comment at this time.

Tasmania Police have been contacted for comment.
