Not the Liberals
THE Liberals are the best economic managers. Wrong - here's proof.

Bridget Archer, Liberal candidate for Bass, on the ABC debate at Agfest with Leon Compton, kept chanting: 'why is Labor funding Mona and financially supporting the creation of a Tasmanian team in the AFL when that money could go to health where Labor says is their major priority?'.
The Liberals are promising small parcels of funds, to various clubs and projects around the marginal seats. Like giving out lollies, to woo regional Tasmanians.
Remember the Liberal mantra.
"Make the economy better and all the communities' needs can be fulfilled".
Well, the handout of sweets will prove disastrous in the end. Not tooth decay, but it will create the need for small communities to fund maintenance for these gifts in the future. Labor targeting MONA, an incredibly successful enterprise driven by genius David Walsh, will generate wealth for Tasmania.
Tasmanian football will thrive when it achieves its own AFL club. Tasmanian teams in all sports punch well above their weight when part of a national organisation. The same will occur in football.
This will not only create a goal for our local talent to aspire to, but create revenue for the state in television rights, tourism, and so on. Labor's funding will improve Tasmania's financial future.
This, in turn, helps fund essential services.
The Liberal philosophy of "cargo cult" handouts will lead to disappointment by those that miss out and to a begging culture by those who were successful.
Richard Davoren, Orford.
Franking Credits
I AM offended by Mick Leppard's letter (The Examiner, May 13) stating that self-funded retirees are wingers because of their concerns over franking credits.
Also that they are defrauding the government. He may as well say that pensioners are also defrauding the government by receiving money they are also rightly entitled to.
He alluded to the fact that we must have money to buy shares. Of course, we have money to buy shares. How else are we going to live out our retirement?
Does he expect us to put it under the mattress or in the bank at next to no interest?
It is our frugal lifestyle that allows us to live without drawing the pension thus leaving more money in the pool for people like Mick.
I consider it very offensive to be referred to as fraudsters just because we want to retire without costing the taxpayers money.
Graeme Barwick, Riverside.
Morally Bankrupt
HOW morally bankrupt is the former Liberal candidate for Lyons?
Resigns over vile online posts, then announces to run as an independent knowing full well if she was lucky enough to get elected she would go back to the Liberals.
Just like Steve Martin turned to the Nationals - opportunist of the worst kind.
Michael Robinson, Beauty Point.
Making Sense of Politics
IF there is any profound truth to be found in politics, it seems to lie within the opposing party's opinion of one another at election time.
Ross Hanson, Winnaleah.
Election
FOR all the promises, all the talk and every last-minute cash splash, all the fly-in visits, smiles and handshakes, for all the deals, donations and deeds, elections are about one thing only - the opposition attaining power and the government retaining power.
L.D. Shaw, Launceston.
Shorten's Promises
GENEROUS Bill Shorten is still throwing taxpayers money around, with his so-called promises. If Labor is elected, sooner or later people's wage increases will be taxed higher to pay back their debt, again.
Be cautious with your vote people.
Sandra Neville, Newnham.
Illusion of Logic
AM I the only one to notice the Coalition's illusion of logic with their scare campaign saying a vote for the ALP is a vote for the Greens, yet the LNP is a vote for the white supremacists and far right of this country, due to their complex preferences?
Max Wells, Sorell.
Political Candidates
I DON'T believe it.
If any more potential political candidates bite the dust there won't be anyone left to vote for. Why on earth didn't the party machines vet the ones standing and delve into their social media accounts? Like political party leaders, with media being able to go back to interviews etc. they can hardly say they didn't say or do whatever.
Rather like Donald Trump who denies ever having said anything, but lo and behold, there he is in all his glory spouting forth on everything because he is, as we all know, a clever genius.
Glennis Sleurink, Launceston.
Too Close to Call
HUNG Parliament heaven forbid.
With many voters completely disillusioned by the major parties, and I don't blame them, they are turning to Independents. It is just possible that the next government be it Coalition or Labor could have to rely on them to form a government.
In spite of a severe handicap, Scott Morrison has proved to be a very enthusiastic campaigner. A few weeks ago I felt Labor was a certainty, but the gap is narrowing very quickly. The choice is very distinct and clear. Labor will just get over the line but not with the large majority it hoped for.
A Labor victory would be mainly due to Peter Dutton. Then there is the Shorten factor, which I don't need to spell out.
I can hardly wait for election night, I think it will be most exciting.
