By keeping up-to-date and offering his land in farming trials, he has seen some outstanding results.
"Last year we grew potatoes for McCains and had a total crop return amount of 55 tonnes to the hectare. It was the first year growing, so we had a look at the areas we can improve on and one of those was obviously moisture at the right time. We chose to put the sensors in and our results - I firmly believe a fair part of it can be attributed to the sensors. We have ended up with 70 tonnes per hectare this year," Mr Briggs said.
"It's nearly $5000 a hectare so it's been a really big benefit."
Mr Briggs said the new style farming was all about looking and monitoring things remotely.
"We are using, firstly GPS controlled liner pivot combination that allows us to control the machine by our phone...
"Second to that we are using moisture sensors in the ground that have sim cards in them that send that signal off to the cloud, and I can then access moisture levels and temperature of the soil wherever I am. I don't spend all day every day out on the farm so I can access it remotely.
"There are all sorts of ideas there, such as flow meters, weather station and all that sort of thing that we can access remotely," Mr Briggs said.
Telstra's business development specialist in Northern Tasmania Sarah Ebbelaar said "technology is changing the way we live and work, and regional areas are relying on mobile connectivity more than ever before."
"In Tasmania, in FY19 alone, Telstra is investing almost $20 million to improve mobile network coverage and capacity for our customers.
"By having more than 300 mobile sites across Tasmania, Telstra is delivering mobile coverage to 98.7 per cent of the state's population."
Telstra is running a Smart farm Early Adopter Program, where about 60 farms in Australia are trialling some new technology. Campbelltown, Perth, Sassafras, Nile, Yolla, Midlands, Frankford, Flinders Island and Bothwell all all being trialled.
