A man has been seriously burnt in a fire that destroyed a house and car in the Central Plateau overnight.

The 39-year-old father sustained burns to his face, hands and airway.
Tasmania Fire Service crews from Bothwell and the Great Lake attended the fire about 9pm on Sunday night.

The two-bedroom house was engulfed by fire upon arrival and had extended to a car and trailer.
Crews saved the trailer and had the fire under control within an hour.
A family of four were staying at the house. The mother and two children were not physically injured.
The man was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Fire investigators will be at the Brandum property today to investigate the cause of the fire.
