The excitement of the Southern Huskies and Launceston Tornadoes both moving further up north ended with their results sinking sharply south.
The Huskies looked on track to beat the highly-regarded Southland Sharks, but slipped over in deep waters.
For the Tornadoes, their slip was so early they never were in the race to recover against Dandenong.
North Launceston had to hold up former Melbourne regular Colin Garland from preventing a North Hobart upset.
Tasmanian Magpies though had little trouble in their second away double-header, picking up the win over last year's grand final opponents Canberra Giants twice.
In comparison, the Tasmania Devils had to claw back to pinch an after-the-siren thriller to collect the under-18 side's third win of the season.
