Tasmanian club Southern Huskies took to the court against Southland Sharks in the Silverdome's inaugural game of the New Zealand National Basketball League.
A modest crowd turned out for the occasion of the rookie team's third successive home game in the state following the first two were held at Hobart's Derwent Entertainment Centre.
But the Mother's Day crowd left the arena disappointed after a late fightback gave the New Zealanders a 104-97 victory.
NZNBL general manager Justin Nelson was in attendance and applauded the new club's endeavours.
