Olympia Warriors piled on three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half on Saturday to set up a 3-1 win.
Riverside did fight back early in the second half when Sam Davis striked at his second attempt on goal.
"It was just 10 or so minutes at the end of that half where we really let it slipped," Roos coach Alex Gaetani said.
"We had conceded some unfortunate goals, but the third one was a bit of a ripper.
"It was a bit disappointing considering the rest of the 75 minutes was pretty positive.
"The first 30 in the second half we not only competed well, but I think the second half we were the better team.
"The result is the result."
That dramatic period had followed a couple of other lopsided cup matches.
Hobart club University put hosts Somerset to the sword in a 5-0 thrashing between the two championship sides.
The students were up at the break by two goals and had continued the one-sided contest in the second half.

South Hobart advanced to the quarter-finals following a surging 5-0 victory.
The injury-depleted NPL side pulled away from a 1-0 half-time lead to slam four goals in the final 23 minutes.

Scores were locked at 1-1 following a Vince Wolfhagen equaliser before Rangers battled the final 10 minutes with one man down.
They pushed through to a 4-3 win on penalties after a top save from Ari Johnston sealed the semi-final berth.
Rangers also advanced in the female under-20 cup competition on the back of a 2-0 victory over Taroona.

The visitors pinched the lead inside the first two minutes off a Taroona own goal.
