The Launceston Church Grammar School Snap! scavenger hunt is on again for grade 9 and 10 students across Tasmanian schools.
The scavenger hunt requires students to take their trusty camera and interpret the 20 words chosen by Grammar head of visual arts Paul Snell.
"The main criteria is that the students have to be creative - some of the words are straight forward, but some of the phrases will require them to think outside the box," Mr Snell said.
The competition has been running since 2007 and is open to all students who have a flair for photography or who want to try their hand at a visual medium.
An exhibition for the finalists is held at the end of the competition and a winner is announced on the night.
The competition is Tasmania's only photographic event for students wishing to express creativity this way.
This year's subjects include: industrial; retro; something that moves; the letter S; into the dark; and I don't like Mondays.
Entries close on Thursday 8 August 2019, with students who gain first place in each section of the competition to receive a DSLR camera.
Mr Snell said the competition was usually well received and he enjoyed finding out how each student or entrant had interpreted his words and phrases.
"It does open up their perspective a bit, because they see how other people have interpreted the words."
He said students enjoyed the gallery, because they could try and see how their work would fit in with those who were finalists or the winner. Winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on August 22 at Launceston Grammar's Poimena Gallery. The exhibition, which will feature all competition finalists, will be on until September 6.
