The Dolphin Sands Ratepayers Association has applied for a $10,000 grant from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal.
The fund would cover the cost of having a mulcher, chipper and operators in the area for a week to help community members reduce the fuel load in the defendable space around their homes without having to light fires.
The association's secretary and treasurer Robyn Moore said the council has also been asked to clear the roadside verges back to property boundaries to provide safer travel for residents and emergency service workers during bushfires.
A crowdfunding campaign has also been started to raise money to buy plants, stakes, tree guards and jute netting to re-vegetate and stabilise the fire affected sand dunes.
