The finals will be held in Launceston on Saturday, with 24 Tasmanian entrants vying for the title.
Model academy owner Sue Rees said the event would focus on the 13-19 age group and would set up the winners to go along to the national finals, which will also be held in Launceston.
"It's the first time we've had the nationals in Launceston so it's a real coup for us," she said.
Ms Rees said an event like Miss Teen Australia was confidence-building for young people and there was a misconception in the community about how much it can be beneficial.
"It's something I always say, but it's not just about modelling - it is about their outfits, and the girls do spend a lot of time thinking about that," she said.
"But they get interviewed by three judges so it's also about their confidence, poise and public speaking."
The event will get underway from 11am at the Launceston Best Western, who is sponsoring the event.
Best Western general manager Aleon Wood said they were proud to sponsor something like this because of the good it did for the community.'
"It's something a bit different but we saw it as an exciting opportunity to bring something like this to Launceston," he said.
Tourism Northern Tasmania is also a sponsor. Tickets are still available for the judging in the afternoon. Contact Sue Rees on 0419 897 673 to secure tickets.
