Left hurting off the back of a 47-point loss to Western Jets last start, the under-18s side were exposed on the wide expanses of UTAS Stadium.
But the Devils will head into their next NAB League home match onto the much smaller North Hobart Oval.
Coach Adrian Fletcher is tipping a contested game.
"Tactics definitely change. You have to play that ground smartly. You have to have good kickers," Fletcher said.
"If you try and get inside 45 and turn it over, it will go straight back over your head.
"It's something we have to get better at quickly.
"But we just have to find the ball around the stoppages.
"We just can't be defending like that in the back half."
Fletcher is confident there is resolve in the group.
They will get their three best players back from Australian under-17 duties.
Ollie Davis starred in the midfield with 20 possessions against New Zealand, Sam Collins picked up 12 touches and Jack Callow had 10 but with no shots on goal.
"We'll go to North Hobart and play a real contested brand of footy," Fletcher said.
"We need some competitors in there - we need to be able to win it on that ground.
"You don't have to play centre-half forward at times, but we need to be able to win it around the clinches."
The Devils had 44 inside 50s to 55 in the second defeat.
It's something that already worries Fletcher.
"That's really from around the ball. They come out the front of the stoppages and those ones are the most dangerous," he said.
