As well as winning two of the team cups on offer, Tasmania found a number of podium successes with Devonport's Tom Winkel among the state's best.

Combining with Northern trio Kaiser Myatt, Mac Wilcox and Alex Zegveld to win bronze in the under-13 Swedish relay, Winkel also took out the 800m and 1500m double, recording a sparkling time of 2:09.23 for the former.

Burnie's Chelsea Scolyer led the way for the girls with gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m, while Hobart District pair Nathaniel Sulzberger (gold and personal best of 1.71m in high jump) and Harrison McLeod (200m silver) both enjoyed good results.

State team manager Brett Gillow praised his team's hot form in what were freezing conditions at the Domain Athletics Centre.

"On the whole as a team we were really pleased with the efforts of all our athletes, we had a lot of athletes make finals on both the track and in the field," Gillow said.

"Everyone acquitted themselves well and as a result we were able to come away with the Dick Healey trophy which is the trophy between us and ACT for the two small states.

"We also came away with the Allan Triscott cup which is the overall handicap winner. We've only ever won that three times and the last time was in 2010 when we drew with Queensland.

"That's testament not only to athletes getting on the podium, but also the standard of the team we had this year with a lot of finalists and a lot of athletes finishing just outside the finals.

"You can only win that trophy if you have a lot of depth in your team."

Other Northern athletes to perform well included first-year athlete Lachlan Colgrave, who ran PBs in the 80m hurdles and 200m hurdles, while Deloraine's Luca Sullivan made the 200m hurdles final.

Grammar student Elliott Findlay finished top eight in the triple jump.
