In April 2018, Dixon Kenneth Gray was painting Beryl Rae Dix's house when he heard an alarm and dogs barking.
Wheldon, 40, started walking into Ms Dix's backyard through a side gate moments after the commotion.
He asked Mr Gray if he could jump the fence into a neighbour's backyard, but Mr Gray said no.

The painter returned to his work, but said his next memory was of lying on the ground while someone patted his overalls. Mr Gray went inside to check on Ms Dix, only to find her "drowning in her own blood".
While giving evidence last year, Wheldon claimed Mr Gray attacked him.
Police were called by a neighbour and responding officers Constable Thomas Moir and Sergeant Felicity Boyd entered a house on Mann Street with guns drawn.
They found Wheldon naked and wet, sitting on the toilet with a bath mat over his legs. As Wheldon was about to be handcuffed he punched Constable Moir in the head.
Wheldon faced a trial in December after pleading not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of aggravated assault, but he introduced new evidence while on the stand and a mistrial was declared.
He changed his plea before Chief Justice Alan Blow in the Launceston Supreme Court on Monday, and will be sentenced on May 9.
