Patron's great expectations should be sated by a singular performance of the famous writer by Michael Edgar.

Edgar said the play was mainly focussed on Dickens' latter years before his death, touring Britain and reading his work in front of his beloved fans.

"In his final years he wanted to do these readings even though they obviously weren't doing his health any good," he said.

Edgar said he hoped attendees would get an look at Dickens away from the fame.

"Like any famous man there's always an ordinary man beneath him," Edgar said.

Charles Dickens Closes the Book will be on at the Earl Arts Centre April 26 at 7.30pm and April 27 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
