For racer Ben Manion of Riverside, who has been competing in Targa for 12 years, the event has been a significant part of his life from a young age.
"As a kid it was the only form of motor sport [in Tasmania] really, the V8s came and left us," he said.
"I went through high school I volunteered as a stage official and dad and I got into it and just kept doing it."
One of Mr Manion's fondest memories of Targa included his 2013 victory in the early modern heat.
Aside from winning, Mr Manion said his most treasured memories from Targa were driving with his father who died three years ago.
Mr Manion coated his car in tiger stripes in honour of his father.
"That's the whole reason the car's painted up the way it is because Dad's nickname was Tiger and he ran his car painted up the same," Mr Manion said.
The car itself is a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with American left-hand-drive and a supercharged V8 engine.
At one point it was driven by V8 Supercars driver Steve Johnson who was loaned the car for the Targa High Country competition.
Mr Manion has only been in two minor car crashes during his racing tenure.
One crash was in 2008 and the other in 2018 - both crashes were on April 20 and both on Mount Arrowsmith.
Mr Manion said they've done a fair bit of preparation but there's always something to tinker with in the lead up to Targa.
"Last year we had a shocking run because the car was only new and we were making changes right up to the very last minutes," he said.
There will be plenty of chances for avid car lovers to see some great cars over the weekend around Northern Tasmania.
