The Break O'Day Council will submit a motion to the upcoming LGAT general meeting to change council meeting procedures.
The motion will ask LGAT to lobby the state government for changes to be made to the Local Government (Meeting Procedures) Regulations 2015.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The requested change would apply when a councillor votes against an officer's recommendation or motion. The reason why would need to be recorded in the meeting minutes.
"This should be done for all decisions of council not just when acting as a Planning Authority," the submission said. "An elected member must be accountable to the community and the only way transparency can work is if the community knows why a councillor has voted 'no'."
There is currently no requirement for councillors to detail their objections when voting against officer's recommendations or motions.
