Tasmania Police is investigating if alcohol was a factor in a crash that left an 18-year-old dead and a man in a critical condition overnight.

The crash occurred just after midnight, Friday, on Frankford Road near Birralee.
Police said initial investigations showed a Mitsubishi Triton, driven by the 27-year-old from Birralee, was travelling East and lost control on a right-hand bend.
The vehicle crossed to the incorrect side of the road before leaving the roadway and hitting a power pole.
The driver and the passenger received head injuries, police say.
The driver was taken to the Launceston General Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The 18-year-old died at the scene.
The scene was cleared about 7.30am, and the road re-opened.
